NestWatch News - February 2010
Staff Changes As project leader of NestWatch and the NestCams, this time of year is always filled with energy and anticipation for what lies ahead. The last ten years has proven to be an amazing learning experience for me and I have greatly enjoyed working in partnership with so many dedicated NestWatchers and citizen scientists. This year however, is different for me personally in that my role at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has recently changed and I am no longer running the NestCams and NestWatch. I have moved into an evaluation research position, which will align more closely with my PhD work and future interests. As part of my PhD research I am very interested in understanding the motivations that underlie citizen science participation as well as the science and nature-related identities that participants bring to these projects. I will be focusing very heavily on NestWatchers and I look forward to working with and possibly interviewing some of you in the very near future.
We are currently in the midst of finding a new project leader for NestWatch, NestCams, and CamClickr. In the mean time, Kenyon Stratton is serving as the interim project leader for these projects. Thanks again to all of you for your continued support and dedication to birds, science, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Prepping for 2010 No matter if you need plans to build boxes, aren’t familiar with the nesting species in your area, or need help navigating the NestWatch data entry, you can probably find it on NestWatch or in the HELP Section. You can even post questions to the NestWatch forums. Though, if you need a little more personal support, we are always just an email away at nestwatch@cornell.edu!
